Beginning Life

Raised up in a Jewish family, Zach is the son of Anne Brodzinsky (a clinical psychologist) and Hal Braff (sociology professor and a trial attorney). The couple divorced and re – married when Braff was a child. He was also diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder when he was ten years of age. He later went on to study at Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center, which is located in upstate New York. Along with graduating from Columbia High School, in Maplewood, New Jersey, Braff worked at the school’s television station as well. He did his graduation in Bachelor of Arts in film, from Northwestern University. There he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity as well.

Works

Since early childhood Braff had this dream to be a filmmaker. He started his career with theatre, featuring in state productions of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and Macbeth at Public Theater in New York City.

The movies he worked in were: Woody Allen’s Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993), Broken Hearts Club (2000), Blue Moon (2000), Garden State (2004), Chicken Little (2005), The Last Kiss (2006), The Ex (2007), New York, I Love You (2009).

In the film Garden State, he also donned the roles of director, writer and soundtrack producer. He is co- writing and co- directing the up coming film ‘New York, I love You’ as well.

In television he worked on shows like: The Baby-sitters Club, Scrubs (2001 – present), Arrested Development (2003-2006). In 2005 Braff also featured on Ashton Kutcher's Punk'd. He also hosted the finale of Saturday Night Live on 19th May, 2007.

He also worked as a voice actor from video games for play station 2 consoles, Kingdom Hearts II and for commercials like, The Cottonelle Puppy, and PŪR.

Braff has also directed various music videos like: Gavin DeGraw's "Chariot", Joshua Radin's "Closer, "I'd Rather Be With You", and Scrub’s theme song , Lazlo Bane's "Superman".

Scrubs Tv Show

Braff has played the role of lead protagonist, in the comedy sitcom Scrubs, which premiered in 2001. His character is named John "J.D." Dorian. He even directed some episodes of the show namely, "My Last Chance", "My Best Laid Plans", "My Way Home", "My No Good Reason", "My Growing Pains" and "My Princess".
J.D. is the lead character as well as the show’s narrator who joins the Sacred Hospital as an intern physician. He has an off and on romantic relationship with a fellow intern, Elliot Reid and Dr. Chris Turk happens to be his very close friend since college and his roommate as well. The whole plot of the show revolves around J.D.

Personal life

Zach is a close friend of Scrubs co-star Donald Faison and since summer of 2007 is dating Shiri Appleby, the Roswell star.

Honors

He won a scream award for lending his voice to the main character in Chicken Little.
Braff has also been nominated for an Emmy and three Golden Globes for his role in the comedy drama Scrubs.
