The first season of the comedy drama scrubs premiered on 2nd October, 2001 and ended with twenty four episodes on 21st May, 2001.

The first season chronicles Dr. John Michael "J.D." Dorian’s (Zach Braff) and his very close friend Dr. Christopher Duncan Turk’s (Donald Faison) first year at the Sacred Heart Hospital, where they land up as interns, fresh out of the medical school. J.D. here meets Dr. Perry Cox (John C. McGinley) who is to be his unwilling mentor and guide; Elliot (Sarah Chalke), an attravtive young, fellow intern for whom he develops romantic feelings; the janitor (Neil Flynn), who seems to loath J.D.; Dr. Bob Kelso (Ken Jenkins), the Chief of Medicine who is more inclined towards the finances of the hospital rather than its patients; Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes), the head nurse who starts dating Turk and dominates him around for a serious relationship.

Amidst the huge number of patients, the characters encounter, family issues, relationships, romantic feelings, vast amount of paperwork etc.
