Life

Sarah was raised in Vancouver, British Columbia as the middle daughter of Angie and Douglas Chalke (lawyer) who have three daughters (Natasha, Sarah and Piper) and run an orphanage. Sarah’s first language is English but she can speak French and German, fluently as well. In 1994, Chalke graduated from Handsworth Secondary School in North Vancouver. A vegetarian, Chalke became a naturalized citizen of America in April 2008.

Engaged to Jamie Afifi, Sarah in her free time, likes to play the guitar, cook with friends (mostly Thai and sushi), snowboarding, hiking, skiing (she is an instructor for skiing too), reading, snowboarding and Kayaking.
A staunch supporter of The Beatles, she asked that for the Season Three finale of Scrubs, "Eight Days A Week" be played.

Career

At the age of eight, Sara appeared in musical theater productions followed by reporting for the Candian children’s show KidZone when she was twelve.
She did shows like City Boy (1992), Relentless: Mind of a Killer (1993), Woman on the Ledge (1993), Beyond Obsession (1994), Robin of Locksley (1996), Dead Ahead (1996), Stand Against Fear (1996), Roseanne ( 1993- 1997), A Child’s Wish (1997), Dying to Belong (1997), Daughters (1997), I've Been Waiting for You (1998), Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy ( 1998), First Wave (1999), Scrubs (2001- running), Clone High ( 2002), The Chronicle (2002), The `Bu ( 2003-2005), Why I Wore Lipstick To My Mastectomy (2006), How I Met Your Mother (2006), American Music Awards of 2008 ( presenter, 2008), Maneater (2009).

Apart from television Sarah has done some great work in movies as well. Notable among these are: Ernest Goes to School (1994), Robin of Locksley (1996), Nothing Too Good For A Cowboy (1998), Y2K (1999), All Shook Up (1999), Cinderella: Single Again (2000), Spin Cycle (2000), Kill Me Later (2001), XCU: Extreme Close Up (2001), Alchemy (2005), Cake (2005), Chaos Theory (2007) and Mama’s Boy (2007).

Sarah became the spokesperson for line of women’s underwear by Hanes, whose commercials were shot by her co-star in Scrubs, Zach Braff in the year 2008.

Scrubs
In the award winning comedy show Scrubs, Sara enacts the character of Dr. Elliot Reid, who also starts as an intern like J.D. at the Sacred Heart Hospital. Both develop quite a close bond, and even have an off and on romance with each other. Elliot is driven toward proving herself to her family and all the near and dear ones and suffers from low self esteem. Later on she becomes a private physician at the Hospital. She has some other romantic relationships as well and one of them with fellow doctor at Sacred Heart, Keith Dudemeister even leading to engagement in the sixth season of the show.

Social Work

The death of her grand mother and aunt had a great impact upon Sarah, as both had died of breast cancer which was never diagnosed in its early stages. Hence she started working towards creating awareness on breast cancer and even did a movie ‘Why I Wore Lipstick To My Mastectomy’. She is also associated with the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Foundation, donning the role of its ambassador.
